Soap Aid

Global Health Issue

More than two billion people across the world lack adequate sanitation causing the spread of infectious diseases and hygiene-related deaths.

Tragically, 1.4 million children under the age of five die each year due to preventable childhood infectious diseases. Globally, diarrhoea and pneumonia are among the leading causes of childhood deaths. Nearly as many children die from these two diseases as from AIDS, malaria, measles, meningitis and tetanus combined.

Rotary have provided a drop off point at PICAL reception and we are proud to be associated with such a worthwhile and vital program.

“Half of the 9,000 children that are estimated to die from diseases such as diarrhoea and pneumonia everyday in our poorest countries could be saved by the routine use of handwashing with soap.”

Professor Martyn Jeggo, Director of Health Programs, Soap Aid
