Funding boost for PICAL

The Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre (PICAL) was one of the 80 Learn Local organisations across Victoria  to receive funding from the state governments Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board Capacity and Innovation Fund 2011.

Ken Smith MP, Member for Bass, (pictured above with Centre managers Imogen Smith, right and Linda Morrison, left) recently visited PICAL to formally present the funding which will help to identify the employment needs of businesses on Phillip Island. The funding will meet these needs by offering training specifically targeting the requirements which will be established from a comprehensive consultation process with the community and businesses on Phillip Island.

PICAL is taking a proactive step pursuing the requirements of the residents and employers on Phillip Island in order to offer relevant and specific training and services. The consultation process will give voice to the needs and concerns of  community members and businesses.  The findings from the consultation process will help to inform program development that is responsive to community needs and identify training requirements for most work related skills on the island.

In the 20 years that the community-based adult education sector has been recognised in Victoria by legislation, organisations like PICAL have helped hundreds of people to access learning for work, civic participation and personal enrichment. Whether it is planning to learn a particular skill, become computer literate, or participate more effectively in our community, PICAL is keen to hear what you have to say during the consultation process.
